Piercing for Weight Loss really works? We explain this subject in detail in our article and answer all questions. Piercing for Weight Loss is a very easy and simple method, but it does not have a scientific basis yet.
Basically, it’s an unusual earring. The “tragus piercing” is pierced through the tragus, the part of cartilage on the ear that sits in front of the ear canal.
This has long been a popular spot among piercing fans, but now they are also discovering women who are otherwise not into “body modification”
Piercing for Weight Loss: Is the tragus the key to losing weight?
Because in acupuncture, the tragus is the seat of important energy points. Among other things, the point that should curb the appetite. A “tragus piercing” is supposed to stimulate precisely this point – and thus ensure that one has fewer cravings for unhealthy snacks. (Read here: No to chocolate )
Piercing for Weight Loss – And what is it really about?
This effect has not yet been scientifically proven. But women who have had a tragus already swear by the effect of the weight loss piercing.
For a long time, there has been a persistent rumor that the so-called tragus piercing helps the wearer to lose weight.
The theory behind it says that this piercing, which is pierced through the small cartilage directly on the ear canal, stimulates an acupuncture point, which in turn is supposed to curb the appetite if activated correctly.
Piercing for Weight Loss – But is there really something to it?
A prick and the desire for big feasts are gone? This thesis cannot be completely refuted, because the region around the tragus cartilage, so it is said in various reports, actually houses the acupuncture point against cravings – and this can be activated by a professionally set prick.
However, it cannot be fully proven that stabbing this piercing can actually help you lose weight.
Critics of this method of losing weight claim that the effect only arises because the acupuncture point is stimulated by the swelling after the sting and the hunger is thus only temporarily curbed.
Have you made experiences with the tragus piercing: Did it really curb your hunger (permanently) and help you lose weight?
Piercing for Weight Loss – Can you lose weight with the help of piercings?
Science means the development of a theory and the subsequent production of an empirical, i.e. always comprehensible, proof of this theory.
Why is this sentence at the beginning of this article? To answer the question in the heading.
The problem with this, however, is that a demonstration in science can take a long time and keep many bright minds busy for centuries.
Whether this is the case with regard to the question of whether there is an opportunity to lose weight with piercings is an attempt to answer here.
Piercing for Weight Loss – The basis for the question
The trigger for the trend to lose weight with the help of piercings was the article in a glamor magazine that reported in its November 2014 issue of a new Hollywood diet in which the “stars” lose weight with a nose piercing.
For this purpose, an acupuncture point on the nose is determined with a so-called acupuncture locator, which influences the feeling of hunger and it is precisely at this point that a piercing is used as a permanent acupuncture needle.
In the meantime, the ear and the tragus, a piece of cartilage just in front of the ear canal, is also accepted as another acupuncture or piercing area in order to be able to lose weight without consciously following a diet, as the piercings inhibit appetite.
Piercing for Weight Loss – Why nose and ear?
In acupuncture theory, it is assumed that certain reflex points on the skin surface influence various organs by means of meridians and that a positive influence takes place through the irritation of these points,
The insertion of needles, or the pressing of the points, whereby there are usually combinations of different Points that are bid at the same time or in a sequence.
Acupuncture, which comes from traditional Chinese medicine, provides a point on both the nose and the ear that affects the gastrointestinal tract.
Consequently, the theory is based on the assumption that a piercing at these points reduces or completely eliminates the feeling of hunger.
Piercing for Weight Loss – Can this be proven?
Like all acupuncture theories, losing weight with a piercing is an unproven assumption. Although even German health insurance companies cover the costs of acupuncture treatment for certain diseases, back pain, and chronic joint pain, this does not mean that the effectiveness of acupuncture has been proven.
The GERAC study, the world’s largest and longest study ever carried out on acupuncture, shows that both acupuncture and sham acupuncture lead to almost identical results.
However, acupuncture has been shown to provide pain relief that is not medically verifiable and is simply based on belief.
Placebos, as not only medical professionals know, are sometimes more successful than conventional medicine.
Belief in it is the most important thing.
piercing for weight loss – does it really work?
Yes, says Dr. Susanne Bihlmaier, naturopathic doctor opposite the Bild newspaper. “Scientifically proven is an effect of tension and relaxation, which is why acupuncture at points such as the research-known ‘point of desire’ can help to dampen the desire to eat”, says the acupuncture expert.
However: Unfortunately, that alone is not enough. Even those who get pierced have to change their diet and do sport in order to become or stay slim in the long term.
And: Some also doubt that a piercing can actually work like acupuncture. According to critics, the swelling after the piercing can at most press on the nerve tracts and thus only curb the appetite for a few days.
